This six-month MUN course is designed to equip students with the full range of skills needed to excel in Model United Nations conferences. From mastering the rules of procedure to researching complex global issues, students will learn how to represent countries, build diplomatic alliances, and craft compelling speeches and resolutions. Whether beginners or experienced delegates, participants will develop the confidence, strategy, and knowledge to lead in any committee room.
Month 1: Introduction to MUN & the UN System
Students are introduced to MUN rules of procedure and the broader structure of the United Nations. They explore the purpose, history, and function of various UN bodies and committee types. Simulations also teach students how formal proceedings unfold and jargon associated with Model UN..
Month 2: Researching in Model UN
This month builds strong research habits tailored to MUN. Students learn how to investigate their country’s foreign policy, history, and stance on key issues. They’ll also explore how to track real-world developments through credible sources and official documents.
Students begin shaping a consistent delegate persona and national narrative. They’ll identify their speaking strengths whether in speeches or negotiation and learn to maximize them. Workshops will focus on committee positioning, policy framing, and strategic presence within a committee. This session will also address the adaptation of these policies to accommodate shifting committee proceedings
Month 4: Public Speaking in Committee
Students practice speech types like General Speaker’s List and Moderated Caucuses. They’ll train in rhetorical style, speech structure, improvisation, and quoting research under pressure. Live drills will simulate timed speech delivery with real-time feedback.
Month 5: Unmoderated Caucus & Diplomacy
This month focuses on in-committee negotiation, alliance building, and informal diplomacy. Students will learn how to lead and navigate Unmoderated Caucuses, lobby blocs, and behind-the-scenes deals. Sessions will teach how to assert influence while preserving diplomatic tone and clarity.
Month 6: Drafting & Advanced Committee Work
Students are taught how to write effective position papers, working papers, and draft resolutions. They’ll also gain exposure to specialized formats like crisis committees and double delegations. The course then culminates in a simulated conference judged by members of Ivy League university Model UN societies to apply all acquired skills.
